We are planning a major renovation of the Saint Wenceslas Home

We are planning a significant reconstruction of the Saint Wenceslas Home in Stará Boleslav next year. When the Caritas of the Archdiocese of Prauge took over its administration three years ago, it was clear that the building would need to be renovated to meet the needs of its residents.

The Saint Wenceslas Home primarily serves seniors from the religious environment, including priests and monks, as well as their parents and other individuals who have worked for the church, especially parish housekeepers, sextons, and organists. They all live together in a spacious historical building in the center of Stará Boleslav. Although the house is well-maintained, it suffers from the challenges of being a historically protected building not originally designed for social purposes. „We wish to provide more privacy for our residents, with single rooms and private facilities becoming the standard. It will also be necessary to reduce the energy consumption of the house to make its operation more economical and environmentally friendly,“ explains Jaroslav Němec, the director of the Caritas of the Archdiocese of Prague.

Over the past two years, a team of architects has been working to digitize historical plans of the property, assess its current condition, and prepare a study for the renovation, followed by the project and technical documentation. The necessary documents for tenders and grant applications are also prepared. „Our historically largest construction project cannot be financed solely through grants and subsidies. We must cover a portion of the costs. Therefore, we turn to benefactors, without whose help we cannot manage this project. They can make the end of earthly life more pleasant for those who have served the church,“ emphasizes Jaroslav Němec.

The Saint Wenceslas Home strives to create a supportive environment for the spiritual life of its clients. They have their own chapel, accessible at all times with the opportunity to celebrate Holy Mass every day. Staff provides assistance to those with limited mobility, and priests deliver Holy Communion to beds throughout the entire house.

Advent is not only a time for reflection but also a period when we want to express kindness and generosity. One opportunity to do so is by supporting the Saint Wenceslas Home. The Caritas of the Archdiocese of Prague directs the entire traditional Advent collection specifically to the Saint Wenceslas Home.
