We are delighted to bring you news about the extraordinary success of the Christmas fundraiser for mattresses for Ugandan children. 360 donors participated in the campaign, collectively donating nearly 600,000 Czech crowns. Thanks to this generosity, we were able to provide quality mattresses for more than 1,200 children from poor families.
The first mattress deliveries arrived in the villages in December and continued throughout January. A truck loaded with colorful foam mattresses, the kind commonly used in Ugandan households, would arrive on dusty roads. It was a touching sight to see children carrying their new mattresses on their heads.
„We carefully monitor that the mattresses reach all identified children,“ says Grace Mboizi, the main coordinator of development projects, who personally oversees the distribution. The list of children in need was compiled during the autumn months by social workers from the Child Sponsorship Program, based on detailed surveys in individual households.
Why are mattresses so important? Many children had been sleeping on hard ground, on jute sacks, or thin mats. Quality sleep is crucial for their healthy development, ability to concentrate at school, and having energy for daily activities.
„Our goal is to gradually provide mattresses for a total of 2,850 poor children,“ says David Flak from the Center for International Cooperation. „Thanks to your support of the Christmas fundraiser and other donations we receive throughout the year to support Ugandan families, we will succeed,“ assures David Flak.
On behalf of all the children, we sincerely thank you. Your help is transforming their lives for the better!
